Aging/Dementia: The Care Implications
  • Compare normal aging vs. dementia
  • Brain tour, overview of the brain, and its function
  • Expected obstacles for the care partner based on brain changes
  • Dementia research, trends, and discovery

Transforming Care Through Understating

  • Appreciate that changes occur which require care partner adjustments
  • Utilize the proper care partner approach, layered with the right attitude
  • Practice and prepare to “team-up” with your person served to accomplish proper care

Why Do They Do That?

  • Define the four primary components of dementia care
  • Reduce medication reliant responses to difficult behaviors
  • Discuss the most problematic situations professional care teams face (i.e. agitation, hygiene, eating, elopement, hallucinations, etc.)
  • Work with medical professionals through targeted feedback

Person-Centered Care Delivery

  • Define person-centered care
  • Discuss how care partner teams might create and adapt their programs for successful outcomes
  • Review person-centered care utilizing the Seven Domains of Wellbeing
  • Utilize development tools for creating a person-centered care environment

Beginning with her work as Child Advocate within the juvenile justice system to her extensive career within the medical and dental field as an Administrator; Lyn’s career has been a unique blend of experiences.  She developed an understanding of family issues as well as an appreciation for health and wellness.   Lyn furthered her understanding of geriatric concerns as the Owner and Director of Client Services for her non-medical home care company and as an Executive Director for assisted living.

Through her company Daylily, Lyn provides educational and consulting assistance for families and facilities regarding topics of healthy aging and dementia care.  Lyn conducts state mandated C.C.D.I.  (Chronic Confusion & Dementing Illness) training for facilities and has presented to several local, state, and national organizations.

Des Moines University is located on a 22-acre campus in the heart of Des Moines, Iowa. Just west of downtown on Grand Avenue, the University is located in one of Des Moines' most prestigious neighborhoods.
